Tarte Face Tape Foundation

Cosmetics companies are trying to keep up with customer demand for more and more shade ranges of foundation. NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation has 45 shades and Covergirl TruBlend Foundation has 40, but Tarte Cosmetics hit controversy last year, because it did not release a full-range of colors in its foundations, but in 2019, Tarte released 50 shades in its foundations. You paint your unique color.

YouTube Makeup Tutorials

Mix shades like an artist, similarly beauty Gurus on YouTube who have access to the best and most expensive foundations, which are not in arms reach of most customers. Beauty Gurus like Nicol Concilio (she typically uses Kylie Jenner, Colourpop Cosmetics, and Smashbox Studios, even through her breakup), and she tends to mix 2 different shades from 1 brand, but the way that the gurus mix is not the correct approach as an artist would do. If you mix 2 shades to make the perfect 1, but you only use a foundation brush, then the mix will become streaky.

Mix the 2 shades with an artist’s palette knife and you will experience the true nature of the foundation. It will not become streaky on your foundation brush and not on your face.

Since foundations are the base for your makeup look, if you need to invest in 2 to 3 shades to create the perfect match for your unique skin tone, then try it out. You can mix the shades at different proportions to cover you differently, when you are darkly moonlit, suntan kissed, or snow bright glow.

John De Andrea

The artist painted sun-kiss on a mold around a real woman in John De Andrea’s Model in Repose (1981), polyvinyl, oil paint, mixed media, from the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Shade Ranges

Three is the charm. Get the shade closest to your skin tone, then get the lightest shade and also the darkest shade in the collection. You can mix parts of the lightest and the darkest going into your middle shade, to create your own personal look with all three shades together.
